Tastemaker of the Week: Ryan Leslie's "Just Right"

From: RyanLeslieTV

After many of my songs began to leak into the blogosphere, I decided to go back into the studio and add a few elements to make the album versions of the records special. This clip opens with me playing back an extended instrumental arrangement of I-R-I-N-A with some overdubs by my man Jermaine Parrish on drums and Al Carty on bass.

Inspired, I decided to re-visit one of my favorite songs called 'Just Right'. Here's a look at that session. I had to rebuild it from scratch as one of my hard drives had crashed and many sessions had been lost. I love the new elements, and here's to you loving them too... read full blog

What is a Tycoon Cut?

Tycoon Cut Diamonds are the hottest brand of “Ice” on the jewelry market right now. They are designed by The Kejejian family. They have remarkable taste and I love their cuts… Just enough appeal to captivate the eye, but not so much that it looks gaudy. Adding to my wish list as well.

The Tycoon Cut is a simple design with 9 crown facets and 20 step-cut pavilion facets. The cut has a signature diamond shaped table that has earned the trademark slogan:
“The Only Diamond with a Diamond on Top”.

The first rule in design is “Less is More” and that is the magic of the Tycoon Cut: It’s a very simple design.

Obama Is Campaigning on Xbox 360!

Obama is what I like to call a “Political Tastemaker” …He is putting a new spin on marketing and campaigning that surpasses all expectations. Video games? Haha, I love it!

“Harlem of the West” Exhibit @ The Jazz Heritage Center in SF

If I believed in past lives, I could see myself living (as a mover & shaker of course) during the Jazz era and Harlem Renaissance movement. I’ve always been fascinated by the life and times of this era, the fashion, art, literature, music, etc. I am making plans to check this exhibit out within the next few weeks, join me if you can!

From the mid-1940s through the late 1950’s, The Fillmore was known as the “Harlem of the West,” a vibrant cultural treasure that was one of the world’s leading centers for jazz music and jazz culture. Jazz was popular in the Fillmore as early as 1930, and as the black population of San Francisco grew tenfold between 1940 and 1950, more than two dozen nightclubs with live music dotted Fillmore Street.

Opening in Fall 2008, The Jazz Heritage Center will present a special version of the popular “Harlem of the West” exhibit first presented in 2006 by the San Francisco Performing Arts Library and Museum.

Focusing on the jazz heyday of the Fillmore District in the 1940s and 1950s, the exhibition will feature new prints of rare archival photographs and original memorabilia from original Fillmore clubs.

Tastemaker of the Week: Farnzworth Bentley

This is my favorite song out right now and the video is bananas lol. You can’t help but gig with it. I am all about branding … And Farnzworth Bentley hands down has taking the game of "ultimate branding" to a whole new level. Check the resume: He started out as Diddy’s Butler, he is also the author of “Advance Your Swagger” (good book pick it up!) he hosted the hit show G’s to Gents, and now he’s dropping his own album which I know is gonna be the lick and there is plenty more attributes to his success in between that. He’s truly defining the term “Cool Outrages Lover of Uniquely Raw Style” (C.O.L.O.U.R.S). If I don’t bring him to town myself, best believe I’ll be the 1st one in line for his show… Quest Love better have this on rotation next week!

Jimmy’s Got Soul! Jimmy Choo that is…

I love Jimmy Choo – bags, shoes (especially shoes), glasses, all of the above. After years of wishing, I finally got a pair of Choo’s in the closet. Which only come out on rare & special occasion’s. I plan on adding to that collection after this damn recession passes. Till then I will just keep you up to date with the latest and greatest creations of the season. Here are some of my wish list items:

Autumn/Winter Collection 08
The new collection for Autumn Winter draws on a rich ‘70’s glamour and showcases an irresistible array of boots, decorative heels and ultra-luxe slouchy bags and clutches.

These super cool shoe boots with graphic metallic heels are my must haves this season.

Autumn Winter 08 sees the introduction of the Lohla –Jayne group of handbags. With its slouchy over-sized shape, dog clip hardware and ultra-luxe finish the Lohla-Jayne is the bag of the season. This must have shopper is available in super-soft leather, patent or cracked leather and glossy python.

A Must Have for the Modern Man's Wardrobe Swag:

In my opinion; There’s just something about cold weather and a well-made coat that makes a man look sexy. I personally like the pea coat (shown) on a man. It can be worn with both casual and dress wear, upgrading your look instantly. Armani and Kenneth Cole carry a nice collection of wool-cashmere coats, but you can find more reasonably priced coats just about anywhere. So my advice for men this winter: add a wool coat to your wardrobe, and some pheromones cologne and let your swagger take care of the rest. Lol.

Jazmine Sullivan - Bust Your Windows

Jazmine Sullivan has really made a name for herself in a short period of time… I am an instant fan of this girl. I can’t wait to see her live. This is her new video to Bust Your Windows off her latest LP (make sure to pick that up). This song is the ish… I’ve personally never had to bust the windows out of anyones car… but umm don’t test me. Lol.

Yves Saint Laurent at de Young San Francisco

This is a must attend for me! Yves St. Laurent is one of my favorite couture designers so I am excited about this new exhibition coming to town. I would love to go to the opening Gala on October 30th and schmooze w/ the Fashionista’s & Aristocrats but tickets for the Gala are $250 a pop! If you want to sponsor me, holla! Lol.

Forty-year Retrospective of the Work of Yves Saint Laurent, opens the exclusive United States presentation of the special exhibition: November 1 at the de Young Museum.

This exhibit celebrates the life of Yves Saint Laurent and showcases forty years of creativity by the Maison Haute Couture Yves Saint Laurent, whose unique style blends references to the world of art with allusions to pop culture and social revolutions. Structured around four themes, the exhibition develops the revolutionary nature of his body of work that presents a new definition of femininity and a signature that transcends fashion.

The exhibition will include over 120 accessorized outfits belonging to the Foundation Pierre BergĂ© – Yves Saint Laurent as well as Saint Laurent’s drawings, photographs and videos. This exhibition marks the first major retrospective of Saint Laurent’s work in over 25 years.

Exhibition dates: November 1, 2008–April, 2009

Rev Runs Words of Wisdom 10/10/08

I love Rev Runs Words of Wisdom… I start off each morning reading his passages. 9/10 it always relates to something I am feeling and/or the current events of the time. A little history lesson about how Rev Runs W.O. W came to be. Rev Run began sending these passages only to friends and fam on his own contact list years ago. Then it became popular when he started concluding each episode of Runs House with a passage. Now, you can subscribe to receive your own everday at I am not going to post every W.O.W. I receive just the ones that I feel make the most sense at the particular time… Starting with today’s: Trusting in Uncertain Riches

Friday, October 10, 2008
Good morning. With today's economy, one would be foolish to trust in his or her own power... Being in covenant with God is the only way to be at peace.. (Remember) Heaven is not in a recession! Pray... Put your trust in God! The scripture says... Forget not The Lord Thy God for it is HE who giveth thee the power to get wealth...

October Events II: Quest Love is Coming to town

Hands down, Quest Love (drummer of The Roots) parties are a must attend! Most folks are unaware that ?Love is also a DJ… But believe me when I say, he does a damn thing on the 1’s and 2’s. ½ of the reason I don’t go out as much these days is because most local clubs play the same old commercial music mixes (which drives me crazy) ?Love comes with a style and mix so eclectic, you’ll find yourself two stepping to Avril Lavigne, Jay-z, the Love Boat theme music and Kanye West all in one mix. Lol. Real talk he did it @ the last function! So I’m coming out of hibernation for this next week. Join me if you can. P.S. If you plan on going, wear comfy shoes and prepare for a hangover the next day, cuz you’ll definitely drink more and dance harder then the norm.

October Events I: Halloween Masquerade Party

To start this blog off right… Yours truly, “The Life of the Party” is giving you the run down on this month’s event’s to be at. Halloween is soon approaching so its time to trick and treat! If you’ve never been to a masquerade party, make this your first. If you know the history masquerade parties, you’ll know that it’s an experience within itself (google it). I recommend this affair for those looking to do something a little different then the usual in the Bay.
